Kretinga

Kretinga is a medium size town located around 10 kilometers away from the Baltic Sea. Probably the most known point of interest in Kretinga is the palace of Tiškevičiai. It was built in the XV century and later acquired and refined by Tiškevičiai family and the most interesting part of the palace is the winter garden. Here the summer never ends and you can find many exhotic plant species that grow all over the year, little animals like fish and turtles, a restaurant and you can even get a taste of bananas that are grown there! Also, the palace is a museum now, where you can get to know the history of Kretinga and Tiškevičiai family.

Kretinga is sometimes referred to as “Vatican of Lithuania” for its input to religion. The Blessed Lord's Revelation Church of the Virgin Mary church was built in 1617 and in 1908 it was rebuilt according to the project of the Polish architect S. Odrzivolski and it was a three-story basilica church with Gothic and Renaissance features. Renaissance and Baroque styles intertwine in the interior of the church. Moreover, Kretinga is known for having 5 still active monasteries, which you can visit.
